Amarillo ISD Earns a “B” from State Accountability Ratings

April 24, 2025 – Amarillo ISD earned an overall “B” rating, according to 2023 accountability scores released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Accountability scores are how the state evaluates its public school districts. The rating is based on performance on the state-mandated STAAR test, graduation rates, and college, career and military readiness outcomes. The release of the 2023 data was delayed until a Texas Court ruled that the TEA could release the numbers in April.

Two years ago, the District began targeted interventions based on the data to improve and achieve the best possible outcomes for our students. Those efforts are working, and the 2024 accountability results show that low-grade campuses have seen improvements.

Additionally, four AISD campuses earned all possible distinctions from the TEA. Distinctions are specific areas of excellence awarded to eligible districts and campuses that demonstrate strong performance in academic achievement and post-secondary readiness. Less than six percent of schools in Texas earned every distinction for which they are eligible. In AISD, those campuses are:

  • Eastridge Elementary

  • Forest Hill Elementary

  • Lawndale Elementary

  • Paramount Terrace Elementary
