Gifted And Talented

Gifted & Talented in AISD
Amarillo ISD provides an exemplary educational program designed for gifted students. The program incorporates identification of gifted and high achieving students with program design, curriculum and instruction, professional development, and community support as well as opportunities outside the classroom.

Gifted & Talented logoThe screening and gathering of additional data can be completed and the students, if identified, can be properly placed for the upcoming school year. Referrals or nominations may come from educators, parents, community members, or students themselves. The identification process begins with the nomination or referral followed by screening, gathering data, and determination of eligibility based on multiple criteria. The multiple criteria include subjective and objective data from the areas of ability or aptitude, achievement, creativity, task commitment, as well as possible samples of the students’ products.

When the process is completed, a district selection committee makes a decision on placement in the Gifted Talented (GT) program. The parent, teachers, and other interested parties are then notified of the decision.
