Family Resource Centers
In an effort to improve services to families, Cal Farley's operates Family Resource Centers (FRC) in Amarillo, Austin, Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio.
Our Family Resource Centers:
• Provide an important bridge between children living on our campuses and their families
• Assist with in-home support to families while their child is on the waiting list for admission to a campus
• Encourage and facilitate family preservation in order to keep the child at home near family, friends and neighbors
• Provide a variety of assistance to Cal Farley's alumni who live in the community
Following are several examples of the assistance provided to families through our FRCs:
• Assist families who lose financial support in locating and moving into alternative housing
• Coordinate services with various community resources to help families become self-sufficient again
• Coordinate efforts between Child Protective Services and families
• Provide case management services to help families access Food Stamps and Medicaid
• Provide school supplies for children remaining in a home
• Provide transportation and support services to allow families to spend Christmas and summer breaks together
• Assist families to avoid financial crisis situations by developing and following a budget
• Assist parents in GED class enrollment
• Provide transportation to assist families in accessing community resources
• Provide holiday assistance for families
• Provide financial assistance with rent and utilities to families in danger of becoming homeless
• Assist families with completing necessary paperwork during times of crisis
• Provide support for parents and encourage them to seek services related to their own psychological and health needs
• Provide coaching, mentoring and family support

Community Resource Coordination Groups are local interagency groups comprised of public and private agencies. Together, they develop service plans for individuals and families whose needs can be met only through interagency coordination and cooperation. CRCG members are from public and private sector agencies and organizations. CRCG members include the following representatives: Texas Health and Human Services Commission , Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services, Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Texas Department of State Health Services, Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments, Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Texas Juvenile Probation Commission, Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Youth Commission, United Way, and Amarillo ISD.

photography, scrap booking, sewing, bicycle mechanics, music, fishing, camping, etc. When a child comes to Cookson, he/she is placed into family with house parents who live with the children all of the time except for a few days off each month. There are 11 large child care cottages (7 bedrooms, 3 baths) and 3 small child care cottages (4 bedrooms, 3 baths)

High Plains Children's Home is located 1.7 miles south of Hollywood Rd. on Western. It provides residential child care licensed by the state of Texas. The campus has 4 cottages, each housing married houseparents and up to eight children. High Plains accepts private placement of boys and girls from 5-17 years of age. Professional counseling is provided for those children with special behavioral or emotional needs. The children attend Canyon ISD schools including Randall High, Westover, Valleyview and Sundown Lane.
Methodist Children's Home

Currently has basic care foster home spots available in the Amarillo and Lubbock areas for children aged birth to 18 years old. Placements in the "Foster Care Program" provide temporary assistance during which time a family can work to resolve some sort of crisis. Typical reasons for foster care placement include joblessness, homelessness, drug or alcohol addiction and/or treatment, military service, hospitalization, and incarceration. Parents are expected to participate in the child's care and have regular visits.
This program offers:
Caseworker carefully develops plan for the child's care, monitors progress and supports the child and birth parents as well as foster family. This is voluntary. Admitted by the managing conservator. Parents do not lose their rights to children.

Provides residential child care for males and females who cannot llive in the own nome due to physical abuse, sexual abuse, divorce, alcoholic family, poor parenting skills or neglect. Capacity enrollment is 72.
Waco Center for Youth

Waco Center for Youth (WCY) is a psychiatric residential treatment facility that serves teen-agers, ages 13 through 17, with emotional difficulties and/or behavioral problems. Waco Center for Youth bases its treatment philosophy on the belief that both behavior change and an understanding of self and others are equally important in achieving significant long-term success in treatment. The mission of Waco Center for Youth is "to give each youth a chance for change" by providing comprehensive psychiatric residential treatment services to emotionally disturbed adolescents of the state of Texas.
